About Chillicothe Caboose
Our Building
In the 1870’s and into the early 20 century the caboose was a 4 wheel “bobber” caboose but the State of Ohio passed a law in 1913 banning the 4 wheel caboose so the 8 wheel caboose emerged in 1913. The first 8 wheel cabooses built were constructed almost entirely of wood. In 1924 to 1929, a steel frame was added to the wood cabooses and they were classified as I-5.
